Over 60% of American adults are not regularly active. 25% of adults are not active at all. Only 19% of high school students are active for 20 minutes or more per day. Men are more active than women. Physical activity declines with age. Ethnic minorities are less active. Higher education and income are associated with more leisure-time activity. Obese people are usually less active than non-obese persons.

26% of adult Mahoning County residents reported participating in no leisure-time physical activity in the previous month in 1993.
Minimum Requirements for Ohio Students
Grades 1-6 - a minimum of 120 hours annually divided over physical education, art and music. Grades 7-8 - a minimum of 60 hours per year of physical education. Grades 9-12 - a minimum of 120 hours distributed over the four years.
