    Overall homicide rates are:
eight times higher in the city
three times higher in the county
for all ages and races than the projected national goals.

In 1995, Healthy People 2000 - Midcourse Review established a rate of 72.4 homicides per 100,000 population as the target for black males aged 15-34. However, the data from this community showed alarming statistics for a narrower age group of 15-24 as the following tables or rates per 100,000 people indicate:

The committee recommends that THE COMMUNITY OF MAHONING COUNTY adopt as its driving force behind future policy and program development:

  • The National Juvenile Justice Action Plan
  • The Guide for Implementing the Comprehensive Strategy for Serious, Violent, and Chronic Juvenile Offenders.
